Can the Approved Drugs for Fibromyalgia actually make your life better?

In medicine a lot of research has been done. We have covered a lot in the field of medicine and technology but still there are some mysterious that are yet to be solved. For example, cancer is now a days spreading all across the world, but there is still no definite cure available to treat cancer. Approximately 10 million people are the victims of fibromyalgia, but fibromyalgia is still a mystery. Everyone has its own opinion about this disease. Many people think that it is some sort of depression and the medicines used to treat fibromyalgia play role in treating depression too.

Fibromyalgia a disease or mystery

Fibromyalgia is a never ending mystery. Fibromyalgia is not a disease like cancer that ends in death, but it is a disease that severely affects your life. One chain connects you to the next chain, but there is no end to it. Fibromyalgia makes you end up in a life where you are bound to stay at home. Fibromyalgia makes you unable to do your desired tasks. Different theories are there to explain fibromyalgia.

Symptoms vary from person to person. Some people think that this condition is due to low levels of serotonin in the body, while others think that it is some sort of neurological disease. Some people think that it is hereditary disease while some people believe that sleep and mood disorders end up in fibromyalgia. We cannot find the actual cause of fibromyalgia. Researchers think that changes in one’s gene made it hereditary but research is still going on this point. . Researchers took some time to develop an actual test that has the ability to spot fibromyalgia. At first, 18 tender points were tested in the human body and the responsiveness of patients when pressing these points.

Some FDA approved drugs to treat fibromyalgia

You can’t just take a pill and make this disease go away, at least not now. That’s why no actual cure is available for it. However, there are certain medications that have proved so effectual for patients. Following are the drugs approved by FDA in the USA.

Cymbalta

Cymbalta was originally used to treat depression, anxiety and diabetic peripheral neuropathy. In 2008 it was approved by FDA. Dry mouth, decreased appetite, constipation, nausea, and excessive sweating are some side effects of this drug. It’s role in teenagers and children have not properly researched but it was found that suicidal thoughts may arise in some people after its use. That is why doctors are reluctant to prescribe this drug. But this should be kept in mind that some people also show positive response after its use. They point out that results are linked to the low level of serotonin in the body in many cases.

Savella

It was thought that this drug may be used to treat depression. But it was not used in U.S for this purpose. So some side effects were also seen including insomnia, dizziness, Suicidal thoughts, sweating, increased heart rate and high blood pressure, vomiting, nausea, and constipation. This drug came in market in 2009.

Lyrica

The very first drug approved by FDA was Lyrica. Originally it was used to treat diabetic peripheral neuropathy, seizures, and pain related to the shingles rash but now it is prescribed for the treatment of fibromyalgia as well. Dizziness, lack of focus, poor memory, weight gain, dry mouth or even swelling are some side effects of this drug. Allergies reactions were also seen in some people.
