In Hollywood, carbs have a bad rap. When it comes to go on a diet, celebrities are quick to give up carbs in favor of protein-rich foods. While going for a carb-free diet will assist you to lose weight and when you start eating carbs again, the weight quickly comes back. They are a vital component of human diet, so it is hard to imagine people avoiding them for the rest of their lives. We decided to take a look at which celebrities are recommending no carb diets. Some of these celebrities have certainly been in-your-face about their diets while others have been more subtle.
Elle Macpherson
Elle Macpherson, who just turned fifty, credits her low-carb, alkaline diet for her ageless looks and her super fit figure. The alkaline diet, which advocates an 80/20 radio of alkaline to acid nutrients to produce the ideal pH balance for good health, is based on the idea that ideal health comes from balancing the pH of the body by eating more fresh fruit and vegetables, along with certain grains, legumes and nuts.
Gwyneth Paltrow
Gwyneth Paltrow claims that her whole family avoids eating bread, pasta and rice as they all have gluten intolerances. “Every single doctor, nutritionist and health-conscious individual I have ever come across…appears to concur that (gluten) is tough on the system and many of us are at best intolerant of it and at worst allergic to it,” she wrote in her cookbook “It’s All Good.” “Occasionally when my family is not eating bread, pasta or processed grains like white rice, we are left with that particular hunger that comes with avoiding carbs.”
Gwyneth has always been aware of her eating habits, spending lots of years exploring macrobiotic and vegan eating styles. Her passion for health, led her to improve her lifestyle website GOOP. After experiencing anemia and adrenal stress a few years ago, Gwyneth’s doctor recommended her to overhaul her diet by cutting out dairy, sugar, wheat, soy, corn, coffee and alcohol for a few weeks. Her anemia cleared up and she felt great. This catalyzed her new Paleo-inspired recipe book It’s All Good. Today she eats a lot of salad, vegetables and white meat.
“My philosophy is eat good, fresh food that is entirely delicious. It has to taste great and be satisfying to all of the senses. We know so much now about how inextricably linked our food is to our overall health. The main thing is, our bodies have a hard time with anything processed. I know from my own research that the more complete the diet, the healthier I feel.”
Gwyneth feels her body is looking better at forty-two than it did in her twenties.
Alyssa Milano
After the birth of her second son, Milano struggled cut sugar and carbs to lose the baby-weight and later discovered the Atkins diet app, which for a mother of two, she found to be a lifesaver. Being a self-confessed carb addict, Biel made 180 degree turn after giving birth to her first baby in April 2015. She decided to dive into the Paleo routine to help shift her baby-weight.
Jessica does not eat carbs and she avoids having processed foods. According to The Independent, she follows a paleo-style diet; but, the super fit artist makes sure to let herself 1 day a week to eat whatever she wants. “You have to cheat sometimes. The trick is to know when to stop…When I am at work and I eat healthily all week, then I give myself one day, usually Sunday when I eat only what I want,” Jessica said.
“Eating Paleo just leans you down and slims you up and takes that little layer of fat and water-weight right off your body. I do a lot of cooking at home using fresh fish or lean meat like chicken and vegetables. I eat well. I do not like the word ‘diet’. Probiotics and fermented veggies are also great for digestion and my skin. You can also buy shredded fermented vegetables at a health-food store and sprinkle them over a salad or even eggs in the morning.”
Anne Hathaway
After a lot of years of being vegan, Hathaway abandoned her tofu and beans during the physically intensive filming of Interstellar. She was feeling increasingly exhausted and one day realized she needed some animal protein. After eating a piece of fresh fish the difference in her energy levels was visible overnight. “I just didn’t feel healthy or good,” she says, “not strong.” The next day she “just felt healthier.” She adds: “I am eating lots of greens, a lot of salad, grilled chicken and some fruits.”
Megan Fox
Megan Fox currently follows to a strict, no carb diet. “I removed all bread and those kind of carbohydrates. No crackers, no chips, no pretzels. Nothing unhealthy,” she told E! News. “The nastiest thing I put in my body is coffee, once a day.” Well that clarifies how she stays so slim!
Halle Berry
Halle Berry has to continuously monitor her diet because of her diabetes. She uses a low carb diet as it offers the most benefits for glycemic control and it decreases cardiovascular disease risk. “For the reason that I am diabetic, I completely changed my diet and workout routine a few years ago. I do not eat refined sugar or fried foods but only natural sugar in vegetables and fruit. And I do not eat carbs a lot,” the Oscar-winning artist said.
Courteney Cox
Courteney Cox follows a low carb nutrition. “I do not drink caffeine. I drink a lot of coconut water. I do drink decaf coffee, but it has to be with Coffee-mate Carnation fat-free vanilla milk,” the “Friends” star said. As part of her diet, she eats lots of protein, containing chicken, steak and fish. She does not eat a lot of fruit, but she does eat plenty of vegetables broccoli, spinach, like kale and asparagus. According to her, if she could indulge, she would want eggplant lasagna.
Kim Kardashian
Kim Kardashian, who used the Atkins diet to lose twenty-five lbs. after she gave birth to her daughter North a year ago, has sworn off carbs once again. The reality TV actress recently announced her decision via Twitter. “Not going to criticize any longer. Starting diet TODAY! No carbs. Crazy exercises. Who’s [sic] with me?” she wrote. “I think after having a baby you just get so happy you lost a lot of weight then you get comfortable & eat how you used & it creeps back up.”
Melissa Maccarthy
Melissa McCarthy has been striking her fans with her seventy-five pounds weight loss, which she has attributed to a low-carb, high-protein diet. The actress displayed her trimmer figure lately as she supported the achievement of her TV Land show, Nobodies.
