9 Dangerous Prescription Drugs You Should Think Twice Before Taking

by M G Rana, MD.

Prescription drugs are a problem around the globe, not just the United States. However, The United States is the worlds largest addicted.  Americans account for 99 percent of the world’s hydrocodone consumption, 80 percent of the world’s Oxycodone consumption, and 65 percent of the world’s hydromorphone consumption.

Those are absolutely astonishing statistics. Obviously, there is a huge problem, but a difference has to start one person at a time. It is very important to be aware of what your doctor is prescribing to you. It can be addictive, harmful, and have horrible side effects. Just because your doctor prescribes it does not necessarily mean it is safe for you to take.

Many popular prescription drugs, it turns out, come with the potential for serious side effects, including everything from short-term nausea and headaches to chronic inflammatory myopathy and heart disease — or worse. In this article, I’ve included the most dangerous commonly prescribed medications.

Like I said before, it is crucial to your health that you are aware of the dangers of the medications you may be prescribed. The stats are alarming, the facts are chilling, and the people are rising. Be sure to watch out for these commonly prescribed drugs. They can be extremely harmful!

Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPI)

These drugs are most commonly prescribed to those who suffer from gastrointestinal issues. Side effects include headaches, dizziness, rash, anxiety, constipation, severe diarrhea, and malabsorption of nutrients. Millions of Americans take PPIs to alleviate the symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), a condition marked by food and acid in the stomach leaking back into the esophagus and causing damage.

But PPIs like Nexium (exomeprazole) and Prevacid (lansoprazole) have been shown to both block nutrient absorption and inhibit the production of necessary stomach acid, which can cause a host of other health problems. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued at least a dozen warnings about the dangers of PPIs, which include an increased risk of bacterial diarrhea, magnesium deficiency, and bone fractures. Long-term consumption of PPIs has also been linked to increased risk of pneumonia and unhealthy weight gain.

Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRI)

Side effects of these drugs include drowsiness, dry mouth, nausea, dizziness, nervousness, insomnia, diarrhea, sexual problems, and the list goes on. That is a lot of side effects! These drugs are usually prescribed to people who suffer from anxiety disorders and depression. It is a pure injustice to target those who suffer from such disorders for profit. they can cause worsening of the depressive symptoms and can make a person violent.

Opioid pain relievers

Opioid based pain killers like Vicodin (hydrocodone bitartrate and acetaminophen), OxyContin (oxycodone HCI), Percocet (oxycodone and acetaminophen), codeine, and morphine are on the top of the list for causing death in America today.  Pain killers are now declared more dangerous and fatal then heroine and codeine.

According to a study out of Brandeis University in Massachusetts. In response to this elevated number of prescription painkiller deaths The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has in fact declared an epidemic.
