Danielle Lloyd ’s mom Jackie breaks down in tears as she opens up about devastating diagnosis and life-changing invisible illness “Fibromyalgia” on Lorraine

Recently, reality star Danielle Lloyd ‘s mother, Jackie dropped the “F” word on live television. Jackie has been diagnosed with the invisible illness “Fibromyalgia” which causes intense pain all over the body.

What is Fibromyalgia:

Fibromyalgia is a disorder characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain added by sleep, fatigue, memory and mood issues. Research shows that fibromyalgia enhance painful sensations by affecting the way your brain processes pain signals. Fibromyalgia Symptoms sometimes begin after a infection, surgery, physical trauma or significant psychological stress. In other cases, symptoms gradually accumulate over time with no single triggering event.

She was tearing up as she discussed her personal experiences with the diagnosis. Like many of us have gone through, or are currently gone through, the road to the correct diagnosis and treatments can be brutal. She initially thought her pain stemmed from arthritis.

When the pain spread throughout her body, not just her joints, she realized something was wrong. Issues with sleeplessness, debilitating fatigue, irritable bowels are just a few things she had happening to her while physicians pumped her full of different prescriptions with out a good reason. I, alike, had many different physicians and medications without answers. I mean real answers. It wasn’t until she, and myself visited a Rheumatologist that the true reason of all the symptoms was revealed. It can take a long time, lots of different physicians belittling us and handing us advise like needing to lose weight, exercise more, its just in your head, etc. Before a true diagnosis can be made. Finally, we can receive the help and words we need.

Lets put this sticker on your car and spread the fibromyalgia awareness. As many people out there don’t consider our illness as being disable, because they don’t know it.

Jackie tell that its being six year ago her body started to changed and that she had assumed it was menopause. She also told Lorraine Kelly: “I was getting aches and pains and and flushes and I thought it was the menopause. Then four years ago it was gradually getting worse – where I was getting so tired I couldn’t get out of bed… the pain was horrendous. And I thought, ‘Somethings happening to me and I don’t know what it is.”

Fibromyalgia. We all see and know this word. Many physicians acknowledge the word, but not the diagnosis. What we live through everyday, widespread pain, insomnia, stiffness, tingling extremities, total exhaustion just to name a very few symptoms are very real. Along with Jackie, myself, and most of you I am sure, we live with this word every moment. We live with a stigma from our physicians, families, pharmacists the general public that we have this all in our heads. We are told that this is not a “real” issue. To have someone with the publics eye on them, speak of the “F” word is a small yet phenomenal feat. It allows us all to feel, see, discuss the monster we are dealing with.

‘It’s a silent illness. Nobody can actually see you’re ill’-Jackie

I am grateful for Jackie to speak out on this matter. We need recognition of fibromyalgia in order to receive the help and understanding from our physicians, families and loved ones. My hope for us all is that our disease can become acknowledged in not only the society we live in, but in the medical journals as well. With everyone’s help and stories, like Jackie’s debut, it is a greater possibility.
