7 Types of Fibromyalgia Pain

Types of Fibromyalgia Pain

Types of Fibromyalgia Pain

Fibromyalgia is a chronic pain syndrome, upsetting a predictable 3 to 9 million adults in the United States. Fibromyalgia is not a particular disease. The term fibromyalgia explains a prototype of symptoms that bunched together, including extensive body pain and sensitivity to force on particular points on the body, called tender points.

Inquisitively, these specific tender points are exclusively sensitive to pressure in people with fibromyalgia, whereas same spots in other parts of their bodies are not. In total, people with other types of chronic pain, such as low back pain or arthritis, do not find that putting force on these spots is painful for them.

The cause or causes of fibromyalgia are still not understood well. Some patients have fibromyalgia symptoms after an accident or sickness, while others have the condition with not any recognized triggering occasion. Luckily, fibromyalgia is not a degenerative or progressive disease that would lead to paralysis, memory loss, or other losses of performance.

Common symptoms of FMS — may include:

Pain, Unease, Attentiveness and reminiscence problems — known as “fibro fog”, Gloominess, Exhaustion, Headaches, Irritable bowel syndrome, Morning rigidity, Painful menstrual cramps, Sleep issues, Lack of sensation, and stinging in hands, arms, feet, and legs, Tender areas, Urinary symptoms, such as pain or rate of recurrence.

Neuropathic Pain

This usually comes from the nerve being pinched by tight muscles, or by compression of the joints they pass through. All nerves in FM patients are more sensitive than they should be including the brain and spinal cord. In addition, small fiber neuropathy can occur, which also contributes to the autonomic dysfunction (i.e. weakness, low blood pressure, and gut problems). Central Sensitization

Sometimes it is also been known as “brain pain”. It extends the analogy of the oil light: As the oil level continues to drop, the brain amplifies the signal. Many patients have difficulty with concentration or have hypersensitivity to odors, light or sounds. This can be addressed by a number of treatments which may include medications like Cymbalta, Lyrica, and Neurontin. Especially important for decreasing central sensitization is a treatment known as low-dose naltrexone, along with eliminating the source of the pain so the brain can recover. Myofascial Pain

This comes from tight muscles. As the muscle shortens, the belly of the muscle forms a tender knot, which is also known as a trigger point. The body pain can range from a dull ache to a shooting or burning pain, and parts of the body may feel sore. Some individuals compare the body pain to that of the flu. The pain can be worsened by a variety of factors, like cold or damp weather, physical activity, stress, or the time of day

In FM, your muscles get shortened and become tight and painful all over your body. These muscles attach to bones with bony ropes known as tendons. When the tight muscles keep pulling on your tendons, you can also see tendinitis. This will often feel like chest pain, joint pain, or deep organ pain. For example, pain that feels like it is coming from the spleen, liver, or kidneys is usually coming from tight muscles attached at the bottom of the lowest rib.

Tight muscles are the major initial source of pain in most people with FM. Unfortunately the body responds to this chronic pain by developing two other pains, neuropathic pain and central sensitization. Click Here to Read in detail about Myofascial Pain Syndrome (MOPS) and Fibromyalgia

Allodynia

Allodynia is a type of skin pain where it hurts to be lightly touched. The pain signals originate with specialized nerves, called nociceptors, that sense information about things like temperature and painful stimuli right from the skin.

Allodynia comes in 3 forms:

Hyperalgesia

This medical term refers to an excess of pain linked with FM. Hyperalgesia is the most common type of FM pain where the pain response reaches the brain and increases in volume, thereby making the pain signals more severe than normal.

Paresthesia

This is a prickling kind of pain that is also characterized by tingling in the nerves and clumsiness and numbness. It is triggered because an abnormal central nervous system, or the root of FM.

Migraines and Other Headaches

Individuals who are suffering with FM suffer through a number of different symptoms like migraines and other headaches. Oftentimes the sufferer may be able to enjoy a totally normal life while other days it seems impossible to even do something as simple as get out of the bed. In addition to the physical pain that FM causes, there are also a number of other consequences of the condition, including an increased risk of mental conditions such as anxiety and depression.

Other types of pain include burning pain or stabbing pain, randomly moving and ill defined pain etc.  Pain or symptoms may also be brought upon by stimulus like loud, repetitive, grating sounds, flashing or bright lights, stress etc. These may be the triggers that stimulate and bring on the pain.
